Jayanthi 2026
186th birth anniversary of Janopakari Doddanna Shetty
About the day
Jayanthi marks the birth anniversary of Janopakari Doddanna Shetty, born on 3 February 1840. Every year on this day, the SLN trust, hostel residents, alumni and the KR Market community gather to honour his memory and recommit to his vision of free education and shelter for the poor.
2026 celebrations
The 186th Jayanthi was observed on 3 February 2026 at the SLN Hostel campus and the Janopakari Doddanna Shetty Circle. The day began with a procession from the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple, followed by garlanding of the founder's portrait, special pooja, and a public meeting.
Annadana & student felicitation
More than 1,200 devotees and students were served free meals (annadana) at the hostel mess. Top-performing students from the SLN schools and college were felicitated, and four new scholarships were announced in the founder's name.
Cultural programme
The evening featured a Kannada cultural programme — bhajans, a short play on the founder's life, and a Carnatic vocal recital — held at the renovated Doddanna Hall premises, continuing the 1905 tradition of the hall as a community gathering place.
