About SLN Hostel
Through the earnest zeal and passion of the donor, Yajman Janopakari Sri Doddanna Setty — a merchant and great philanthropist of his time — SLN Charities came into existence in 1906, deeply committed to the service of humanity through education and employment through cottage industries. The Trust was established with the Will of the donor, dedicated to the spirit of sacrifice and service envisaged by Sri Doddanna Setty.
Initially started as Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Dharma Patashale in 1905, the school was inaugurated on 10 March 1906 by the Maharaja of Mysore. Doddanna Setty's selfless service endeared him to the rich and the ordinary alike, and he was awarded the title "Janopakari"— "one who does favour for the people" — by His Highness Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar at Amba Vilas Palace on 18 October 1907, with the traditional Mysore Peta and the Gandaberunda Dollar, the royal insignia of the dynasty.

Chairman, SLN Hostel
The most valuable gift that we can give to our children is quality education. Education today demands developing children into citizens who will be competent to contribute to nation building, who learn to live a fuller and more enriching life.
We believe in the holistic approach. We give free education to all students coming from humble backgrounds. We encourage students to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities like dance, music, arts and sports.
The well-equipped library, Science and Computer labs, sports, and well-qualified and experienced staff contribute to the all-round development of our students. Our institution has made its place not only in academics but also in non-academic fields, always upholding the motto of the institution.
With sincere regards,
Chairman, SLN Charities

(3 February 1840 – 5 August 1921)
Indian merchant and philanthropist from Bangalore, Mysore State, whose vision of free education and shelter for poor students laid the foundation for the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha (SLN) institutions that continue to serve the community today.
On 18 October 1907, Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV of Mysore conferred upon him the title “Janopakari” (Generous) for his lifetime of social service. A landmark near KR Market is named “Janopakari Doddanna Shetty Circle” in his honour.

Founded the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Dharmapatashale to provide free education to children from all backgrounds. Inaugurated on 11 March 1906 by Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV on 5.5 acres donated by him. It later grew into SLN College of Arts and Commerce (1966), still functioning today.
