Temple Renovation (1910)

Restoring a 19th-century shrine

In 1910 Doddanna Shetty completely renovated the 19th-century Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple on OPH Road, Shivaji Nagar — rebuilding the sanctum, reinforcing the gopuram and reviving daily worship.

A sanctuary for the community

The renovated temple quickly became a spiritual centre for the surrounding wards, offering free annadana (food) to pilgrims and the poor, a tradition that continues on festival days.

Sannyasa and the Aashrama

In his later years Doddanna Shetty took Sannyasa and founded the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Aashrama beside the temple, dedicating his remaining years to service, scripture and feeding the destitute.

Heritage today

The temple still stands on OPH Road and is recognised as a heritage shrine of old Bangalore, closely associated with the SLN trust and the philanthropist's family.
